Cabinet Water Damage Restoration in Delaware & Maryland
Cabinets under a kitchen sink or bathroom vanity are usually the first thing to show water damage, since they sit closest to the plumbing connections most likely to leak or overflow. Particleboard construction, common in cabinet bases, absorbs water quickly and doesn't hold up well once it's wet — swelling, softening, and losing its shape faster than solid wood would.
C&B Complete Cleaning & Construction inspects and restores water-damaged cabinets across Delaware and Maryland, checking the cabinet base, toe kick, and surrounding flooring for how far moisture has traveled, then drying what can be saved and removing what can't.
If cabinets in your kitchen or bathroom are wet, call (302) 381-9891. Inspections are free, and we'll assess the damage.
What to Do Right Away
If it's safe, shut off the water source causing the problem. Open cabinet doors to let air circulate, and remove any items stored inside that are wet or blocking airflow. Avoid pulling the cabinet itself apart or prying off toe kicks before the damage has been assessed, since that can make it harder to document the extent of what happened.
Photograph the cabinet interior and any visible swelling or staining, then call us. We'll tell you plainly whether drying is realistic or whether the cabinet base needs to come out.
How Our Cabinet Water Damage Process Works
We inspect the cabinet base, toe kick, shelving, and the flooring and wall cavity nearby, using moisture meters to see how far water has traveled beyond what's visibly wet. Where standing water is present under the cabinet, we extract it, and we dry what can reasonably be saved. Particleboard and MDF cabinet bases that have swollen or delaminated usually can't be dried back to their original shape, so those sections typically need to be removed rather than dried in place.
Structural drying continues through the surrounding flooring and wall cavity as needed, and we document everything — what was salvageable, what wasn't, and why — for your records and your insurance carrier.
Common Damage Areas and Warning Signs
Sink-base cabinets in kitchens and vanity cabinets in bathrooms take the brunt of most cabinet water damage, since they're closest to supply lines, drain connections, and dishwasher hoses. Signs to watch for include swollen or bulging cabinet bottoms, doors that no longer close properly, a musty smell when you open the cabinet, and discoloration or softness in the toe kick.
Water often travels beyond the cabinet itself — into the wall cavity behind it, under adjoining flooring, or into a neighboring cabinet run. We check these areas as part of every inspection rather than assuming the damage stops at the cabinet door. Left unaddressed, trapped moisture inside an enclosed cabinet is a real mold risk, since there's little airflow to help it dry on its own.
Cleanup, Drying, and Repair Coordination
Our work is inspecting, drying, and removing water-damaged cabinet material and documenting the loss. The plumbing issue that caused the leak — a supply line, drain, or dishwasher connection — is work for a licensed plumber, and we coordinate with them so repairs and drying don't get in each other's way.
Replacing cabinet sections once everything is dry falls under reconstruction. C&B offers full-service reconstruction, so one company takes the job from the first call to the finished rebuild.
Related Water Damage Services
Cabinet water damage often connects to a broader water event depending on where and how it started. If the damage happened in a bathroom, our bathroom water damage page covers that setting more broadly. Where a sink overflow caused the damage, our sink overflow cleanup page covers that specific cause. Structural drying explains how we handle flooring and wall cavities beyond the cabinet itself. Our water damage restoration hub and water damage cleanup page cover the fuller restoration process, and water mitigation explains how we limit damage from spreading while cabinets dry.
